The main reason for coming to Agra (population: 1,118,000) is to see the Taj Mahal. The other main tourist sites are the Agra Fort and 40 km away, the deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri.
Away from its handful imposing monuments, there's little to distinguish Agra from any other northern Indian city: it has the usual dense chowk (market), a large cantonment, lots of predatory rickshaw-wallahs and highly polluted air. The Yamuna River, which flows through the city and is the backdrop of the Taj and the Agra Fort, has become an open sewer - scientists recently declared it incapable of supporting any life form.
I was very impressed by the Taj Mahal. I have never seen such a beautiful and perfect monument.

Below are some pictures of the Taj Mahal… see for yourself, experience the beauty of this monument, a monument built for love.
On August 16, 2001 I went a second time to Agra to visit the world-famous Taj Mahal. This time I admired this great monument together with Oli and it was at the same time my last trip within India.
Below you find some pictures of this great day.
