DARJEELING, WEST BENGAL

Synonymous with tea, Darjeeling (2,100 m) is a petite hill station in West Bengal. Rolling hills of tea plantations against the Kangchendzonga. The Toy Train and elegant monasteries add to Darjeeling's charm.

Tranquil tea plantations, grand monasteries, charming hilltops and a toy train make Darjeeling a special destination in the east. Originally called Dorje Ling, or 'Place of the Thunderbolt', Darjeeling is a pleasant little hill district in the state of West Bengal. Monasteries and Buddhist establishments dot the terraced green tea estates.
The lives of the inhabitants revolve mainly around the huge tea plantations and processing plants. The Toy Train adds a distinct charm to this little town.
