Delhi is the capital and the third largest city of India (population: 11 million). There are two parts of the city - Old Delhi, the old Muslim capital, and New Delhi. In Old Delhi you will find many mosques, monuments and forts relating to India's Muslim history. The British built New Delhi as the imperial capital of India. It is a spacious, open city and contains many embassies and government buildings. The newer, wealthy suburbs are mostly to the south of New Delhi, and an ever-growing belt of poorer suburbs and jhuggies (slums) stretches in all directions. Not many travellers have a lot of good to say about Delhi; the intense air pollution and the persistent touts often make the city an unsettling experience for newcomers. It does, however, have a long and fascinating history and there are plenty of interesting things to see:
Delhi offers everything, the curious visitor just has to choose from this great variety of sights, museums, bazaars, etc. Obviously not an easy task…
Following you find a small selection of my Delhi pictures. I hope you like them!
