TRAVELLING AROUND THE WORLD

Why travelling is so important to me...

Travelling has always been an essential part in life for me. When I was young I used to travel with my family though just more or less short trips - we have been, for example, to Italy, Turkey, Spain, France. Later I usually travelled with friends (to Great Britain, Spain, within Austria) or with my brother (to Mexico). Then my boyfriend became my new travelling partner - together we went to Tunisia, skiing trips, Italy, USA, Canada, to the Philippines, etc.

Since my study abroad, long-term trips to other countries have become more important to me. Therefore I try to seize every opportunity to go abroad - various programs support(ed) me on this way (Wirtschaftskammer Oesterreich, AIESEC).

For me, travelling is very important because when going abroad you can do a lot for your personal development: getting to know different cultures, people, and lifestyles; living within another culture broadens your mind, therefore I always try to get in contact with the people living in the particular country; especially when travelling to a poorer country than your own, you appreciate your home country more and live a more intense life; you get to know different styles of handling things, different points of views;... Actually, in my mind travelling has only advantages (despite the fact that I miss my boyfriend, family, and friends during my trips). Therefore I'll grab every chance to get abroad, as often as possible.

After finishing my studies I did a 3.5 months trip around South East Asia (see below) as a kind of reward for my successful graduation from university. In November 2003 I started working as the assistant to the managing director of GULET Touristik, one of the largest tour operators in Austria. GULET is part of European's largest travel business, the TUI. In May 2005 I became the assistant to the CEO of the TUI Austria Holding AG (which is the holding company to various brands like Gulet, TUI-Austria, Magic Life, 1-2-Fly, terra, fun&sun) So you see, I stuck to my principles - I'm working in the tourism branch - definitely the perfect thing for me :-)
