Santorini (or Thira; population 10,500) is an extraordinary island in the most Southern part of the Cyclades. It's 89 square km big and consists of 5 islands: Thira, Thirassia and Aspronisi represent the fragmentary rim of a burst-open and cave-in volcano (caldera); whereas Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni, two small young islands, are situated in the middle of the flooded caldera.
The main island Santorini is 16.7 km long and between 1.3 and 6 km broad.
The landscape is truly fascinating: the flat east coast is delicate green and dominated by terraced vineyards, while the west coast is steep and rough - the colourful face drops steeply 200 to 300 m into the basin.

Santorini offers a lot for the interested visitor: beach-towns like Kamari, picturesque towns like Thira (or Fira; the capital) and Oia; black, red and white beaches; countless churches and chapels;... but also the laid-back atmosphere of a Southern country and the warranty of never-ending relaxation :-) A sailing trip around the island is also highly recommended...

My mom and I spent a week on this extremely beautiful Greek island - see some pictures below!
