Southern Germany Flag of Southern Germany
July 13 - 16, 2006

In July 2006 we spent 4 days in Southern Germany. The reason of our visit was the wedding of Franzi and Rick, two friends I got to know in Delhi, back in 2001.
The wedding took place in Stuttgart (located in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg), but we also paid some other places a visit. First of all, we went to Heidelberg (Baden-Württemberg), which is quite close to Stuttgart and also toured through Bavaria visiting Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Dinkelsbühl and Nördlingen.
It was a wonderful trip to Germany! We discovered once more the beauty of our neighbouring country.

Stuttgart top

Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, is quite a nice city... we wandered through the city, discovered all kinds of places and streets, relaxed on the Schlossplatz, visited some markets and found out that the people here are really crazy about soccer (we were there one week after the world-soccer-championship-final). Please see my pictures below!

Heidelberg top

Heidelberg, well-known for its university, is brimming with history everywhere you look. You'll find lots of museums or the Heidelberg castle but if history is not your thing, go shopping in one of the most pedestrian precincts.
I especially loved the Philosophers' Way - the walk offers beautiful views of the castle, the river Neckar and the Old Town.

Rothenburg ob der Tauber top

For many people, Rothenburg ob der Tauber is the epitome of a medieval German city. Its inner part is nearly unchanged since the Thirty Years' War. Narrow cobblestone streets, carcass houses, churches, etc... all surrounded by a city wall. A trip to Rothenburg is a trip to the past. We loved it!

Dinkelsbühl top

Dinkelsbühl is, like Rothenburg, also a medieval city that is surrounded by a city wall. The atmosphere here is laid-back and there are not too many tourists. We strolled aimlessly around the city and enjoyed the beautiful houses.

Nördlingen top

Nördlingen, was probably the biggest surprise on this trip... such a cute little city, where you can easily spend a day. We strolled through the city, visited the St.-Georg's-church, discovered lonesome streets, medieval houses, etc. Nördlingen is definitely a gem in Southern Germany!
